MY WORLD IS DIGITAL

I’m back—sorry for the delay! This website will take a new turn, not that there was much of an old turn. 🙂 Stay tuned for some exciting adventures!!

Ivy League Courses for the Eternal Student

It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been to college, but I’m going back this Fall.  I’m starting out by taking a History class from Princeton.  I’ve lived long enough to be utterly fascinated by history, and I can’t wait to dive into the course!

And then there’s the Humanities course from Duke University and the Psychology course from the University of London…..

I’m like a kid in a candy store! There are so many wonderful choices, and so much that I want to learn. I just can’t wait!

I know, I know…..with the cost of college nowadays you probably think I’m flush with money to be enrolling in courses at 3 remarkable Universities, but the great news is this….

It’s ALL FREE!

The courses are FREE!!!

They are all taught by renowned Professors from top notch Universities and yet none of these wonderful courses costs a penny!

But it gets better than that.

The classes –198 so far—  from Princeton to the University of London — are also all ONLINE!  So I don’t even have to leave my comfortable home to take them!

The educational website is called “Coursera.”  Check it out  at www.coursera.org.

Why would they give this wonderful gift of knowledge for free?

Well, the founders’ mission  is to “empower people with education that will improve their lives, the lives of their families and the communities they live in.” See https://www.coursera.org/about

Exciting, eh?

Dead Sea Scrolls Coming to a Computer Near You!

The Dead Sea Scrolls are going digital!!

Thanks to a partnership between Google and Israeli antiquities authorities, the Dead Sea Scrolls will be going online soon!

See…

http://news.discovery.com/tech/dead-sea-scrolls-digital.html

The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of Biblical documents dating to back 300 BC, and are considered one of the most important works of human history.

From the Discovery article:

“This is the most important discovery of the 20th century, and we will be sharing it with the most advanced technology of the next century,” IAA project director Pnina Shor told reporters in Jerusalem.

The IAA will begin by using multi-spectral imaging technology developed by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration to produce high-resolution images of the sometimes-faded texts that may reveal new letters and words.

They will then partner with Google to place the images online in a searchable database complemented by translation and other scholarly tools.”

The first set of images will be posted online within a few months, and the project is scheduled to be completed within the next 5 years.

Stay tuned for links and updates!!!
